Where did July go? Is anyone else asking that same question? I decided to “unplug” during the month of July and focus on my family, my house, and myself. It was just what the doctor ordered! lol We started off the month of July with a family vacation with my sister and her family, a trip we try to do biannually. It is a great week of spending time with family. Then, I had two weeks at home…we had a major storm hit Quincy with extremely high straight line winds (we lost a huge tree and thankful that was all)….I painted and decorated my living room with the help from a new friend….and spent time with the kiddos. Finally, the last week of the month, I went on a business cruise to Belize, Hondorus, and Mexico. Whew, it’s been a whirlwind, BUT fabulous. Stay tuned as I post photos and more about my fabulous July 2015.
I love this assignment for the summer. As I am finishing grading my online summer class projects, I am looking forward to tackling more of this list and my own list. However, earlier this year, I felt my life was unbalanced with work, family, fun, and devoting some time just for me… so I’ve been working on finding that balance….and, I feel like I am achieving it.
Here’s some things I’ve been doing:
- I spent this Spring training and ran my first half marathon. It was a fabulous experience. In fact, I am going to register for the MO’ Cowbell half marathon this Fall.
- I’ve made some new friends. It’s been great getting to know new people.
- I’m walking and/or jogging with new friends.
- We joined the Kroc Center and the kiddos and I have been finding time to swim, rock climb, and play basketball.
- I read at least 10 pages per night of a self-help/self-improvement type book.
- We adopted a dog from the Quincy Humane Society, and I’ve surprised myself at how much I am enjoying having a dog in the house. I’ve even “gotten over” the shedding!
- I’ve enrolled the kiddos in various summer camps! That’s a win-win….they get to learn something new and meet new people and I get a little free time.
- I’m worry much less about the small things…for example, I broke my smart phone and didn’t freak out about it. That’s huge for me.
- I’m shutting down the technology more and more and taking more time for self-reflection, exercising, and just hanging out with the family.
- I’m the happiest and most content I’ve ever been in my life. It’s wonderful.

Last week, Denny and Sean were all packed and ready to head out the door to their week long Scout camping trip, when I snapped a photo of the two. When I looked at the photo, I couldn’t get over how slim and trim Denny is looking and how Sean looks like a young man.
Exactly two years ago, Denny and I made a commitment to get healthy together, while promoting healthy lifestyles to our children. Over these two years, we have discovered more and more about our eating habits and exploring ways to get the family healthy together. Our journey has had it’s ups and down, but one thing is for sure….we are doing this together and providing good role models for our children.
Today, I woke up thinking and immediately began to think about my good luck. Why?? I woke up without an alarm clock blaring in my ear to tell me to get up and go to work. Instead, I put on my walking clothes and shoes and grabbed the dog. We were able to go on a 2.5 mile walk…I was dripping sweat and enjoying the hot, humid Midwestern summers and still couldn’t stop thinking about my “good luck.” I didn’t have to rush to work, I was able to go for a long walk with the doggie. There’s Redwood, face-to-face with a bunny! lol
Once, I returned home, I asked Keara if she wanted to go to the Kroc Center to swim. YES, of course!! At the Kroc, Keara and I “raced” some swimming laps and then I enjoyed some free time reading while lounging in a chair while she swam, played, and went down their huge slide. The whole time, thinking how lucky that I am to be able to enjoy such freedoms in my life….I have two jobs that I absolutely love, they are flexible, and I can live my life around them. THEN, later that afternoon, Keara and I met a friend at the QU Rec Center for a jog and some tumbling. We are living an active lifestyle. This is our summer to be a fit and healthy family!
All day, I continued to reflect on my “luck”….I went to school for a long time to get my doctoral degree to teach at the university level, I LOVE that job, but that didn’t really cover all the bills, medical expenses, braces, activities and fees for the kiddos, etc. That’s when I stumbled upon network marketing….WOW….the best business model on the planet! This business is providing us with a second stream of income that we so desperately needed and I can work it from anywhere. ANYWHERE! I fit it in around our lives…I can work my business from my dining room table, from the sofa, in the carpool line waiting for school to dismiss, at the grocery check-out, at the pool, at the beach, at the park…you get the idea. It’s the best “job” ever.
I keep drinking pink and shrinking. Denny snapped these photos as I was heading out the door this morning for a 5 mile training run. Over the last two and a half years, it’s been a journey to better health, losing weight, and living a healthy lifestyle. The first before picture that was taken in the summer of 2012 at the Canton Community Garden and I remember that day…I felt miserable and none of my clothes fit. I had just finished writing my dissertation and had gained about 30 pounds in the process. When I saw the Garden photo pop up on FB, I knew I had to do something about my health. At that time, I had always been an avid walker and I was having difficulty doing my daily walks. I was trying to “diet” to lose the weight and still not having any luck. FINALLY, I admitted (mostly to myself) that I needed some help to lose the weight. When the next before photo was taken, I had decided I was going to focus on the pink drink, adding Probio5 and Biocleanse (TriPlex combo)….almost immediately, I began to feel better, was eating less at meals, and didn’t need to snack between meals. By adding the probiotic and the biocleanse, I no longer needed all the OTC meds I was taking for my stomach/digestive (leaky gut) issues….I began to have more energy (no more afternoon crashes), sleep through the night and waking up fully rested. Just with those results, I knew I would take those 3 products forever…I felt (and still do) they were worth their weight in gold! It would be another 3-4 months before the scale moved, but I knew it would eventually. Fasts forward to today…I consistently take the TriPlex combo and have added our multivitamin (X-factor) and occasionally take Boost or accelerator…I am training for a #halfmarathon…and feel like I am in my 20’s. It’s been over a two year journey to better health and I am only where I am at today because the plexus health supplements balanced my body and healed the “insides.”
Today, I was reminded how fortunate I am that I discovered network marketing. In our current economic times… pay raises are few and far between, retirement plans are being cut and in jeopardy, employees are asked to take on more and more responsibilities without compensation, many people live paycheck to paycheck, debt is soaring…just to name a few reasons as to why generating a second stream of income is necessary. I knew many of those “issues”, until I stumbled upon network marketing.
With network marketing, you are paid what you put into the business, as little or as much as you want. It is the best business model around. Why? Here’s a few of my top reasons:
- Companies invest in its employees and their success, instead of investing in advertising and celebrity endorsement.
- Start up costs are low with little to no risk.
- It’s a simple business model that doesn’t require a college degree, overhead, employees, or a brick and mortar shop.
- You can work your business part time, any time, on your own schedule.
- You use the products that you love and get paid, WELL, to do so, then SHARE with others.
- If you give your business enough time and effort you are able to compress a 30-50 year career into 3-5 years….and continue receiving a check for the rest of your life.
- The Direct Selling Association has been around for over 100 years, so it’s a tried and true business model that’s proven to be solid.
In addition to that, I am touching lives by helping them regain their health, I am making fabulous friendships, and my worries about money are decreasing. I keep thinking how lucky I am that I have found this business model. Where else, could I earn this type of money, working part-time, making my own schedule? I work around my full-time teaching job and my family’s schedule. It a win-win.
I can show you the way. Are you ready?
My blood sugar was crashing on a daily basis. It was getting so severe that I wasn’t able to leave my house for a 1-2 mile walk around the neighborhood without getting all shaky. In order for me to go for a walk, I would eat a handful of raw almonds. If I ate the almonds, I would be able to walk without having a blood sugar crash. That should have been a wake up call for me, but it wasn’t. Instead of looking into regulating my blood sugar, I did as I always did…trying to eat (healthily) to control it. For as long as I can remember, I have tried to manage my blood sugar with food…I never left the house without packing extra food in my purse, bag, or backpack. Many days, I would plan out the snacks I would need to have on hand so I could make it between meals.
With those frequent blood sugar crashes, I frequently had dizziness, shakiness, hunger, headaches, irritability, weakness, anxiety, sudden fatigue, and poor concentration. In many cases, I would become so hungry that I would binge eat to satisfy those hunger feelings.
Within a few days of drinking the pink drink, it was a complete turn around…
- I wasn’t getting all shaky and losing concentration
- I wasn’t snacking
- I was eating less at meals
- I had more energy
